Epic landscapes and views for days… here are five Icelandic Instagram accounts adding breathtaking beauty to our feed
There’s more to Iceland than Reykjavik and the Northern Lights. With black sand beaches, ice mountains (just a casual 4,500 square miles of glacier) and the Reynisdrangar basalt sea stacks, it’s no surprise that Instagram is buzzing with stunning images and stories from there – and now that the weather is warmer, we’re more likely to appreciate the country’s other-worldly snow scenes, too. We’ve rounded up 5 Icelandic accounts to add to your morning Instagram scroll.
Ondrej’s photographs of rural Iceland are so evocative that you’ll actually feel the cold while you’re scrolling. Born in the Czech Republic, Ondrej studied graphic design but his passion for the outdoors led him to the Icelandic Highlands, where the landscape and atmosphere is incomparable. Browse through his posts and you’ll be wondering how he managed to capture almost every shot. @byondrej
The diversity of images on Bjorg Vinsigur’s account creates a lively, engaging feed. His photographs range from abstract black and white landscapes to moody nighttime scenes full of atmosphere. Oh – and his poetic captions also give you a personal insight into his favorite spots. @bjorgvinsigur
Icelandic adventure enthusiast Hörour Kristleifsson is fearless; a head for heights means he can capture truly impactful shots of the Icelandic landscape, including Reynisfiara, with its made-for-Instagram black beaches. If you live in a crowded, built-up city, Kristleifsson’s account will have you daydreaming of clear pastures – or even a move to Iceland. @h0rdur
Hans-Olav Whether you’re into cutting-edge architecture, rustic farms or cityscapes, Hans-Olav, the architect and photographer behind @solvander, reveals the architectural wonders of his country – all from the comfort of your sofa (score!). @solavander
As the handle suggests, @iheartyeykjavik is a love story to founder Audur’s hometown, Reyjavik. From picturesque yellow coastal houses to too-cute babies wrapped up in the Icelandic snow (yes, it’s a thing – see below) to street art from around the city, you’ll find it all here. @iheartreykjavik
