New Orleans is a city like no other and the perfect place to instil some spirited sentiment into your feed
It’s the stuff that dreams are made of. New Orleans. Home of Dixieland Jazz, a famous Mardi Gras, and birthplace of Truman Capote. Located on the Mississippi River in Louisiana, the ‘Big Easy’ is bustling with some of the best food (beignets anyone?), parties, raucous carnivals and music round the clock.
If your Instagram feed is starting to feel monotonous and lacklustre add an injection of serious fun and personality with these five local Instagram accounts to follow now. Take a leaf out of the book of the city that inspires and surprises in equal measure.
Frank Relle
At first glance, Frank Relle’s (@frankrelle) eerie shots of New Orleans look like they are straight out of a horror film. On second glance, however, you get a sense of tranquillity. Foggy skies and dark clouds cast shadows over isolated houses and majestic trees, offering up a completely new aspect of the city. If you are in the area, Frank opened a gallery in 2016 in Milternberger House, which was once the home of the Princess of Monaco, and houses a collection of his photography. Definitely worth a look.

Photographer Lenore Seal (@lenoreseal) captures the unseen moments of daily life around New Orleans in her work, candid and with an intimate feel. Seal manages to showcase the depth and breadth of life in the city – from the wildness and liveliness of the annual Mardi Gras and its community, to ‘behind the scenes’ moments between friends and families, and the everyday connections between people.

Patrick Melon
Patrick Melon (@melontao) not only captures the skylines and buildings of New Orleans but is also a pro at capturing just the right moment of action, whether it’s the second a motorcycle does a wheelie or the moment of a kiss at a wedding. Melon’s work has a strong sense of place, from streetscapes and skylines to the faces of the city’s many diverse inhabitants.

This account (@nolabeings) hosts an array of portraits and intimate expressions that belong to the residents of New Orleans. It shares their stories, positive or negative, and acts as a platform in which they can be full of life and tell people their stories. Sort of like Humans of New York, but down South. Genuinely fascinating and a welcome short story to enjoy on your feed during your morning commute.

TowerFantasy
OK, stick with us on this one. TowerFantasy (@towerfantasy) doesn’t exactly show you a ‘realistic’ vision of New Orleans – you’re not going to find any quirky people pictures of atmospheric urban shots here. Instead, using the vacant Plaza Tower as the subject, Tower Fantasy adds abstract and cartoon images around it. Our favourites have to be the Plaza Tower ice-cream sundae and the Plaza Tower as Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music. Not your average account, but one to follow if you have a design centric sense of humour and a passion for the city of New Orleans (or office blocks).
